Lesson Introduction

In this lesson, we will go over the elements of a great book cover design. People really do judge books by their covers. After distributing over 3,500 books for clients, I can confidently say this. It is a small investment for a big result.

Lesson Key Points

People often DO judge books by their covers, so make it look great.
The color schemes should be pleasing to the eye. Colors need to work together.
Make sure the cover and all the images that make up the cover are clear and not pixelated. Print book covers require much higher resolution photos and images than ebooks.
Use more more than 3 or so fonts.
You don't need your own photos. Choose one of many royalty free images from any image site. I suggest http://www.depositphotos.com.
Make your cover intriguing. The cover should make the prospective reader want to read the book.
Print book covers are quite complex and require templates provided by the printer. They include much more information than ebooks.
Ebooks require just the title and the author's name. The title on the cover must match the actual title exactly that is used to register the book, otherwise it can be rejected by retailers.
